Liberty School Larkana recently held a special event to honor the memory of its late founder, Ghulam Murtaza Sheikh. Sheikh, who himself lost his sight in 2019, envisioned a school that provided a modern education for both sighted and visually impaired children. Sadly, he passed away recently, but his legacy lives on through Liberty School, which opened its doors in August 2023.
The event began with a prayer for Sheikh's soul, followed by a unique and inspiring competition - an arm-wrestling tournament exclusively for the school's visually impaired students. The energetic competition showcased the determination and athleticism of the participants, who thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and friendly rivalry.
Faisal Khan, the school principal, and Ustad Maqbool Ahmad Soomro, the sports teacher, presented prizes to the winners, including Farhan Brohi, Fawad Brohi, Parvez, Siraj Ahmed, Zakir Hussain, Arshad Baloch, Shoaib, and Salman Mirani.
In a statement to the media, Khan expressed his gratitude to those present and highlighted the school's mission: Liberty School is not just an educational institution; we strive to provide services and free education to differently-abled children. While government regulations mandate that 25% of seats in private schools be reserved for underprivileged students with free books, uniforms, and other facilities, this often isn't the case. We urge the community to identify visually impaired children who could benefit from our inclusive environment.
Liberty School Larkana's commitment to inclusivity and its dedication to honoring its founder's vision are truly inspiring. This article highlights not only the competition but also the school's broader mission of providing equal educational opportunities for all children.
