Pakistan Web Desk: Another child in Pakistan has been diagnosed with the polio virus. The child belongs to the East District of Karachi, as confirmed by the National Institute of Health's Polio Reference Laboratory.
According to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the symptoms of this latest case emerged on December 21, 2024. With this case, the total number of polio cases reported across the country in 2024 has risen to 70.
The EOC stated that this case was officially documented in 2024. During the year, two polio cases were reported in Karachi's East District alone. The center also highlighted a significant surge in polio cases nationwide throughout 2024.
A breakdown of the cases reveals that 27 were reported in Balochistan, 21 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 20 in Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
The rise in polio cases underscores the urgent need for enhanced vaccination campaigns and awareness efforts to protect children across Pakistan.
