EU Ambassador Discusses Poverty Reduction, Flood Relief, and Education with Sindh Chief Minister.

Karachi, Pakistan-  European Union Ambassador Dr. Reena Kavinka met with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to discuss ongoing collaborations between the EU and Sindh.

Focus on Poverty Reduction and Flood Relief.

The meeting centered on joint efforts to tackle poverty and support flood victims in Sindh. Dr. Kavinka highlighted the EU's existing €170.85 million investment in Sindh's development projects. A significant portion of this funding (€50 million) is dedicated to a poverty alleviation initiative specifically designed to address the economic challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, the Ambassador mentioned a separate €3 million EU project underway in Umarkot and Tharparkar districts. This initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), aims to bolster agricultural development in the region.

Collaboration in Education and Solar Energy.

Dr. Kavinka expressed the EU's commitment to extending further assistance to Sindh in the areas of education and solar energy. Chief Minister Shah welcomed this proposal, emphasizing the critical need for school reconstruction following the devastating floods that impacted over 20,000 schools in the province. He called upon the EU's support in rebuilding these educational institutions.

The Chief Minister also highlighted a key electoral promise made by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to provide solar energy access to underprivileged communities in rural Sindh. He emphasized Chairman Bhutto's vision of illuminating homes through solar power, a vision that aligns with the EU's focus on sustainable development.
