In a groundbreaking statement, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the importance of separating sports from politics, advocating for a harmonious exchange between India and Pakistan in the realm of cricket. Highlighting the resilience of sports in overcoming political tensions, he urged India to send its cricket team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, reciprocating Pakistan's readiness to visit India.

Speaking exclusively to Geonews, Minister Ahsan Iqbal underscored the transformative power of sports diplomacy, urging both nations to channel their competitive spirit into constructive arenas such as education, sports, and health. Despite past strains in bilateral relations, he championed the idea of fostering camaraderie through sporting engagements.

Acknowledging the need for revitalizing sports infrastructure in Pakistan, Minister Ahsan Iqbal lamented the historical neglect of the sector, citing underutilized funds allocated for projects like the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad. However, he affirmed the government's commitment to prioritize sports, declaring 2025 as the "Year of Sports" and unveiling plans for nationwide initiatives aimed at promoting athletics and fostering talent development.

Looking ahead, Minister Ahsan Iqbal outlined ambitious plans to enhance sporting facilities, including the installation of air-conditioning systems at the Liaquat Gymnasium in the Sports Complex Islamabad to facilitate international competitions. Additionally, he revealed forthcoming projects such as the installation of astroturfs and the construction of mini sports complexes across the country, signaling a concerted effort to elevate Pakistan's sporting landscape.
